Posted: Monday, October 19, 2009 7:27 PM

Senorita Bree shook free in her sixth career starts and powered to a 7 1/4-length romp on Monday at Zia Park to become the first career winner for New Mexico-based sire So Long Birdie.

Trained by Chris Hartman for owner Chris Turrentine Racing, Senorita Bree completed the one-mile maiden special weight race in 1:46.20 on a track rated as fast. Bred in New Mexico by Mark Allen’s Double Eagle Ranch, Senorita Bree is out of the winning Four Seasons (GB) mare Season for Glory.

A seven-year-old by Pioneering out of 2004 Broodmare of the Year Dear Birdie, by Storm Bird, So Long Birdie will stand the 2010 season at Leonard Blach’s Buena Suerte Equine in Roswell, New Mexico. A half brother to 2003 champion three-year-old filly Bird Town and ’04 Belmont (G1) and Travers (G1) Stakes winner Birdstone, So Long Birdie has seven two-year-olds in his first crop.

Allen and Blach own 2009 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Mine That Bird, who is from the first crop of Birdstone.

So Long Birdie posted two wins, one second, and one third in five career starts with purse earnings of $60,020. He finished second in the 2005 San Miguel Stakes at Santa Anita Park.
