Multiple Grade 1 winner and freshman sire Southern Image will relocate to Rancho San Miguel in San Miguel, California, for the 2010 season.
The nine-year-old Halo’s Image horse out of Pleasant Dixie, by Dixieland Band, will stand for $5,000 as the property of a syndicate.
Southern Image has sired 12 winners from 36 starters in his first crop, including three stakes-placed runners. He stood his first four Northern Hemisphere seasons at Taylor Made Stallions in Nicholasville, Kentucky, with additional Southern Hemisphere duty at Widden Stud in Australia.
Bred in Florida by Arthur Appleton, Southern Image swept the Malibu Stakes (G1), Barretts/CTBA Sunshine Millions Classic Stakes, Santa Anita Handicap (G1), and Pimlico Special Handicap (G1) in consecutive starts between December 2003 and May ’04.
Mike Machowsky trained Southern Image, who won six of eight career starts and earned $1,843,750 for owners Blahut Stables, the Kagele Brothers and partners.
“He had all the attributes of a great race horse—precocity, versatility, consistency and the will to win,” Machowsky said.
Southern Image is a half brother to Black Bar Spin, a stakes winner in Japan.
