Mavs Juliet first winner for sire Maverick

Mavs Juliet took a clear lead in early stretch after racing in second and cruised to a 2 3/4-length victory as the 11-to-10 favorite on Wednesday in the fifth race at Delta Downs to become the first winner for freshman sire Maverick.

Trained by Brian House for owner Heartlines Horse Ranch, Mavs Juliet covered 6 1/2 furlongs on a track rated fast fast in 1:23.21. A half sister to steeplechase stakes winner Best Attack, Mavs Juliet is one of four winners from as many starters out of the winning Defensive Play mare Best Offense.

Maverick was winless in three career starts. A half brother to 1997 champion three-year-old male and dual classic winner Silver Charm, eight-year-old Maverick is by Dixieland Band out of the winning Poker mare Bonnie’s Poker.

Maverick will stand the 2010 season for Heartlines in Keatchie, Louisiana.
