Posse, the leading freshman sire of 2007, will relocate from Vinery Kentucky to Empire Stud in Hudson, New York, for the 2010 season.
A stud fee has not been announced for the nine-year-old Silver Deputy stallion out of Raska, by Rahy.
Posse is the sire of ten stakes winners, including Kodiak Kowboy, the 2007 Canadian champion two-year-old male and winner of the ’09 Carter Handicap (G1) and Vosburgh Stakes (G1). Another son, Lantana Mob, is a multiple Grade 3 winner.
“We could not be more excited with the opportunity to stand Posse,” said Jamie LaMonica, president of Empire Stud. “He’s a proven stallion with a lot of speed, and he will be an asset to the New York breeding program.”
Posse ranks eighth on the third-crop sire list with $7,072,725 in progeny earnings, fueled by 102 winners from 170 starters, through Wednesday.
Bred in Kentucky by Robert and Lawana Low, Posse scored five stakes wins, including the 2002 Kentucky Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G3) and ’03 Riva Ridge Breeders’ Cup (G2) and Lafayette (G3) Stakes. He won seven of 18 starts and earned $662,841.
