Posted: Friday, November 06, 2009 12:27 PM

Lane’s End in Versailles, Kentucky, pensioned champion sprinter and prominent sire Gulch on Thursday. The announcement was coupled with the release of Lane's End's stud fees for the 2010 season. (For stud fees, click here)

“We are also announcing the retirement of our great international sire Gulch due to declining fertility,” Lane's End owner Will Farish said.

Gulch won 13 of 32 career starts and bankrolled $3,095,521 in three seasons. He won five of 11 starts in 1988, including the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1), Metropolitan Handicap (G1), and Carter Handicap (G1), and took home the Eclipse Award as champion sprinter.

Out of multiple Grade 1 winner Jameela, by Rambunctious, Gulch has sired 596 winners from 881 starters that have earned $80,729,530 through Wednesday.

Gulch's 30 group or graded stakes winners include 1995 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont Stakes (G1) winner and that year’s champion three-year-old male Thunder Gulch, multiple Group 1 winner Nayef, English classic winner Harayir, and Grade 1 winners Court Vision, The Cliff’s Edge, and Wallenda.
