Red Rally first winner for Reformer Rally

Red Rally set a brisk pace on the inside and was never headed en route to a 3½-length victory in the sixth race on Saturday at Churchill Downs to become the first winner for Louisiana-based sire Reformer Rally.

Trained by Merrill Scherer, who owns Red Rally in partnership with Dan Lynch and Ken Sentel, the chestnut colt completed the five-furlong maiden special weight race in :57.28 on firm turf in his second career start. He is out of the unraced Thirty Six Red mare Premium Red and is half brother to multiple Grade 1 winner Premium Tap.

A 14-year-old by Dynaformer out of the Raise a Cup mare Royal Setting, Reformer Rally stood the 2009 breeding season for $1,500 at Pickett Thoroughbred Farm in Coushatta, Louisiana. He has 16 foals of racing age, including 14 two-year-olds.

Reformer Rally won five of 38 starts, including the 1997 Hopemont Stakes, and earned $243,768 during five seasons.
