Fantastic Look, a Grade 1 winner and Grade 1 producer for Betty Mabee’s Golden Eagle Farm, died on May 29 after delivering a Salt Lake colt. She was 23.

The foal is healthy and with a nurse mare.

Bred and raced by John and Betty Mabee, Fantastic Look won the 1989 Fantasy Stakes (G1) at Oaklawn Park and 1990 Silver Belles Handicap (G2) at Hollywood Park for trainer Gary Jones. She finished second or third in four Grade 1 races.

The Green Dancer mare out of stakes winner Fantastic Girl, by Riva Ridge, produced stakes winners Classy Prospector and Absolute Harmony. Her most decorated offspring was Designed for Luck, a Rahy gelding who won graded stakes races as a three-year-old and six-year-old before highlighting his career with a victory in the Shoemaker Breeders’ Cup Mile Stakes (G1) as a seven-year-old in 2004.

“Fantastic Look was a special mare for us and has always been a farm favorite because of her determination and attitude,” said Janine McCullough, Golden Eagle’s general manager. “We are fortunate to have a two-year-old filly by Salt Lake named Serendipity to carry on this important family. Serendipity is currently in training and looks very promising.”

A half sister to three stakes winners, Fantastic Look has produced seven winners from 11 starters. In her own career, Fantastic Look won seven of 23 career starts and earned $681,247.
