Maraahel to stand in Trinidad and Tobago

Posted: Monday, January 26, 2009 4:48 PM

Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum’s two-time Hardwicke Stakes (Eng-G2) winner Maraahel has been retired and will stand the upcoming season in Trinidad and Tobago.

The eight-year-old Alzao horse won eight of 34 starts and earned $1,945,126 during six seasons. Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, he captured the 1½-mile Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2006 and ’07. Maraahel placed six times in Group 1 races.

Maraahel was purchased by the Stud Farm Association of Trinidad and Tobago and will be syndicated in 20 shares. A decision on which stud operation will stand him will be made by shareholders at a later date.
