Grade 1 earner Liquidity, a brilliant son of Tiznow, has been retired from racing and will stand for a fee of $3,000 live foal at Steffee Stallion Station in Folsom, Louisiana.
With earnings more than $240,000, Liquidity was beaten by only a nose as a two-year-old in the Hollywood Futurity (G1). At three, he was an early Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) favorite and ran second in the Sham Stakes (G3).
“He was one of the most athletic horses I’ve ever been around. He was a natural talent. He had the ability to be competitive at the Grade 1 level from 6 furlongs to 1 ½ miles,” said Doug O’Neill, who trained Liquidity for owner J. Paul Reddam.
“I’m excited to be standing a horse of this caliber in Louisiana. Liquidity was a precocious two-year-old with tremendous heart. He is correct and a beautiful individual. In an age when most of Louisiana’s incoming stallions have already proven to be unsuccessful in Kentucky or elsewhere, Liquidity gives breeders a first-hand opportunity to breed to a top new Grade 1 stallion prospect by one of the best sires in the game, Tiznow. Liquidity is going to be well supported by his syndicate, which is largely made up of Kentucky and Louisiana breeders,” said Jed Steffee, owner of Steffee Stallion Station.
Tiznow’s current two-year-old crop is the first crop bred after his daughter Folklore was named champion two-year-old filly.
“Tiznow is once again having a tremendous fall with his two-year-olds," Steffee said. "His son American Lion just won the Hollywood Prevue Stakes (G3) and is looking like a top choice in the upcoming Cashcall Futurity (G1) at Hollywood Park. Tizahit just won the Demoiselle Stakes (G2) on November 28 in New York, making her one of the top two-year-old fillies in the country and two-year-old filly Katy Now just won by daylight at Churchill [Downs] on November 28. All this plus Liquidity’s own success as a top two-year-old racehorse points to him being a top two-year-old sire with the ability to also get breeders the classic horse.”
