Grade 1 winner Shakespeare has relocated to William Schettine’s Signature Stallions in Reddick, Florida, for the 2010 breeding season after two years at John Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms in Lexington.

Shakespeare, an eight-year-old Theatrical (Ire) stallion, won seven of eight races, including the 2005 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational (G1) and ’07 Woodbine Mile (G1) Stakes. His first foals arrived this year after he covered 70 mares in 2008.

“You’re talking a smaller population of mares when you’re talking about a turf horse, so another marketplace might be easier to get him additional mares in his third year,” Sikura said. “Hopefully, his first crop will have some runners and we can bring him back. For now, this is a good deal and everyone is pleased.”

Shakespeare earned $711,540 while racing exclusive on turf for breeder Dell Ridge Farm and co-owner Schettine. Shakespeare is out of the Grade 1-winning That’s a Nice mare Lady Shirl and is a half brother to stakes winner Fantastic Shirl.

Signature Stallions has not announced a stud fee.
