Dandy’s Legacy becomes first winner for Serazzo

Dandy’s Legacy overcame a bump on the first turn and rallied on the second turn to draw away under jockey Paul Nolan to an 8¼-length victory on Thursday at Retama Park to become the first winner for freshman sire Serazzo.

Trained by Jon Locke for Veronica Griggs, the two-year-old bay gelding covered one mile in 1:43.05 on a track rated as fast in his fifth start. He finished third on two other occasions, including his previous start. He is the first winner from three starters out of the winning Master Lode mare Bethanys Dandy.

Serazzo, a full brother to Grade 1 winner and sire You and I and a half brother to multiple Grade 1 winner Chaposa Springs, won nine of 38 starts over eight seasons and earned $304,748. He stood three seasons at Blossom Farm in Texas before dying earlier this year.

The 13-year-old Kris S. horse is represented by three foals of racing age from three crops, and Dandy’s Legacy was his third starter.
