Prairie Breeze first winner for sire Castledale
Prairie Breeze raced in fourth through a half-mile, took the lead with a four-wide move in early stretch, and won her career debut in the second race on Wednesday at Hawthorne Race Course to become the first winner for freshman sire Castledale (Ire).
Trained by Charles Livesay for owners Flying I Ranch and Millard R. Seldin Trust, Prairie Breeze covered one mile and 70 yards under jockey Danush Sukie in 1:46.98 on a track rated as fast.
Castledale, an eight-year-old multiple Grade 1 winner by Peintre Celebre and out of the Silver Hawk mare Louju, stood the 2009 season for $6,000 at Crestwood Farm in Lexington. He has 64 foals of racing age in his first crop.
Castledale won five of 17 career starts with earnings of $864,423 in three seasons of racing. He won 2004 Santa Anita Derby (G1) and had an unplaced finish in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and won the ‘’05 Shoemaker Breeders’ Cup Mile Stakes (G1) and San Francisco Breeders’ Cup Mile Handicap (G2). As a two-year-old, Castledale captured the 2003 Generous Stakes (G3)
