Chief Seattle headed to WinRich Farm in Indiana

inRich Farms in North Vernon, Indiana, has privately acquired Chief Seattle, the sire of two-time California Cup Classic Handicap winner Bold Chieftain.

The 12-year-old Seattle Slew stallion out of Skatingonthinice, by Icecapade, had been standing for Darley at Empire Stud in Hudson, New York. He ranked third on the New York sire list.

A stud fee has not been announced.

“We are extremely excited about giving Indiana breeders the opportunity to have access to a horse of this quality,” WinRich owner Tommy Wente said. “He automatically becomes the number one sire in Indiana by a long shot.”

Besides Bold Chieftain, the earner of $1,083,411, Chief Seattle is the sire of 2006 Canadian champion three-year-old male Shillelagh Slew and Grade 2 winner Seafree. He has 188 winners from 251 starters who earned $12,232,225 through Thursday.

Bred in Kentucky by Atwood Richards Inc., Chief Seattle finished second in the 1999 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) and Champagne Stakes (G1).
