Gainesway releases 2010 stud fees

Gainesway dropped the stud fees for six of its ten stallions for the 2010 breeding season.

The Lexington farm cut the fees for Afleet Alex, J Be K, Mr. Greeley, Orientate, Smoke Glacken, and Whywhywhy.

Following a breakout year for second crop sire Birdstone, Gaineway boosted his fee from $10,000 to $30,000. The 2004 Belmont Stakes (G1) winner sired Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Mine That Bird and Belmont (G1), Shadwell Travers (G1), and Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) Stakes winner Summer Bird from his first crop. A half brother to champion Bird Town, the eight-year-old by Grindstone is out of 2004 Broodmare of the Year Dear Birdie, by Storm Bird.

Gainesway also raised the fee for Grade 1 winner Tapit from $35,000 to $50,000. The eight-year-old by Pulpit out of the stakes-winning Unbridled mare Tap Your Heels is the sire of 2008 champion two-year-old filly Stardom Bound, Grade 1 winners Careless Jewel and Laragh, and 2009 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Tapitsfly from two crops of racing age.
