Three Chimneys reduces fees
for nine of 12 stallions

Robert N. Clay’s Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Kentucky, has reduced the stud fees for nine of its 12 stallions for 2010.

Dual classic winner Big Brown’s fee was reduced from $65,000 to $55,000, and dual classic winner Point Given’s fee was reduced from $15,000 to $10,000.

“We have reduced most of our fees in recognition of the market,” Clay said. “We will continue to limit our book sizes, while offering multiple mare packages, breed-back specials, and cash discounts.”

The fees for Dynaformer ($150,000) and Exchange Rate ($25,000) were unchanged, while the fee for 2004 dual classic winner Smarty Jones will be $10,000 in 2010 after he stood the previous two seasons for a private fee. Smarty Jones began his career at stud for $100,000 at Three Chimneys in 2005.

A 24-year-old by Roberto out of Grade 1 winner Andover Way, by His Majesty, Dynaformer is the sire of ill-fated 2006 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Barbaro as well as champions McDynamo and Rainbow View. He has 658 winners from 906 starters that have earned $89,295,873 from 17 crops of racing age.

Exchange Rate is a 12-year-old by Danzig out of the graded stakes-winning Seeking the Gold mare Sterling Pound. He has 153 winners, including 25 stakes winners, from 206 starters that have earned $12,014,500 from five crops of racing age.

Smarty Jones, winner of the 2004 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1) and that year’s champion three-year-old male, has two crops of racing age, including multiple graded stakes winner Backtalk.

Record-setting Grade 1 winner Red Giant will stand at Three Chimneys for $6,000 after standing last season for $7,500 at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms.

All fees are due when the foal stands and nurses, except for Dynaformer, whose fee is due September 1. As in years past, all Three Chimneys stallions will be limited to 110 mares, except for Dynaformer, who will be limited to 70 mares.
