Our Tekela Rose scores for Grade 1 winner Kela
Our Tekela Rose controlled the pace under Chris Emigh on Sunday in the fourth race at Arlington Park and was fully extended to prevail by a length and become the first career winner for Central Kentucky-based sire Kela.
Trained by Lon Wiggins for owner GTS Racing, Our Tekela Rose completed 4 1/2 furlongs on the synthetic Polytrack surface in :53.25. Bred in Kentucky by Shadowfax Stables, she is out of the winning Summer Squall mare Storming Way.
An 11-year-old by Numerous out of the winning Sovereign Dancer mare Bolshoi Comedy, Kela has 57 two-year-olds in his first crop. A half brother to stakes winner Leaveemlaughing, Kela stands for $7,500 at Margaux Farm in Midway, Kentucky.
Kela amassed eight wins from 26 starts in five seasons and banked $1,022,527 in purse earnings. He recorded four stakes wins, including victories in 2004 in the Bing Crosby Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G1), Pat O’Brien Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G2), and Texas Mile Stakes (G3). He finished second to Speightstown in the 2004 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1).
