Silenceofthewind first winner for Eddington
Silenceofthewind won a maiden race at Newcastle by three lengths on Thursday to give freshman sire Eddington his first winner.
The Eddington colt was making his second career start for owners Mogeely Stud and Maura Gittins. Bred in Kentucky by Lavin Bloodstock and Brereton C. Jones, Silenceofthewind is out of the Eltish mare Betty’s Solutions.
The colt covered six furlongs on a turf course rated good to firm in 1:13.77 as the 8-to-5 favorite in a field of 12.
Jones’s Airdrie Stud consigned the colt, as agent, at the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale, where he sold for $310,000.
Eddington, an Unbridled horse out of Fashion Star, by Chief’s Crown, was a Grade 1 winner from the 2001 foal crop. He won six of 17 starts, including the 2005 Pimlico Special Handicap (G1), and earned $1,216,760.
Eddington is represented by 85 horses of racing age from his first crop, and Silenceofthewind was his second starter.
Eddington stands at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky, for an advertised fee of $15,000 in 2009.
