Hurricane Hall stallions relocated
Ben P. Walden Jr., president of Hurricane Hall in Lexington, announced on Monday that the stallion operation will be relocated to his newly-purchased 265-acre Pauls Mill in Woodford County near Versailles, Kentucky.
Hurricane Hall was founded in 2006 and originally owned by Walden, Pat Madden, David Hanley, and Brad Kelley. Recently, Walden and Madden acquired 100% of the stallion company with Kelley purchasing the 403 acres of land on which Hurricane Hall operates.
“Pat and I have been close friends since childhood and we are blessed to share deep family roots in the horse business,” Walden said. “I will stand the stallions at Pauls Mill and that’s where we will continue to grow our stallion interests.”
NetJets Breeders Cup Mile (G1) winner Artie Schiller and Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) winner Bellamy Road, each with more than 100 first-crop yearlings of 2009, and Grade 2 winner Teuflesberg will move to Pauls Mill in mid-July.
“My enthusiasm for Artie Schiller and Bellamy Road has never been greater and I can’t wait for everyone to see their yearlings,” Walden said. “Teuflesberg, the grand-looking horse that he is, has gotten wonderful first-crop foals this year.”
Plans for 2007 champion turf male English Channel, owned by Kelley and James Scatuorchio, are to be determined.
“Brad Kelley is an exceptional friend to me and it was only natural that he take the next step and do his own thing in the horse business,” Walden said. “Pat, myself, and our other broodmare partners plan to continue our support of English Channel every step of the way.”
On May 30, the 24-yearling crop owned by Walden and partners arrived at Pauls Mill. They will be consigned in 2009 as the property of Pauls Mill with the first draft going to Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale of selected yearlings. That group includes two yearlings by Bellamy Road, one by Artie Schiller, and a Storm Cat full brother to last year’s sale-topper, plus yearlings by Bernardini, Distorted Humor, Giant’s Causeway, Seeking the Gold, and Unbridled’s Song.
Later in August, Pauls Mill plans to sell three more yearlings by Bellamy Road in the select session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. August yearling sale through Perrone Sales. The remainder will go to the Keeneland September yearling sale.
