Frost Giant to shuttle to Chile

by Michael Burns

Grade 1 winner Frost Giant will stand the upcoming Southern Hemisphere season in Chile at Fernando Gil’s Haras Santa Monica.

The six-year-old Giant’s Causeway horse launched his stallion career this year at Empire Stud in Hudson, New York.

Frost Giant raced for Michael Tabor, Susan Magnier, and Derrick Smith in Europe, where he was a Group 3 winner on turf at two and three, annexing the 2005 Killavullan Stakes (Ire-G3) at seven furlongs and ’06 Bruce Betting Kilternan Stakes (Ire-G3) at 1¼ miles on turf, both at Leopardstown.

Sent to North America, Frost Giant showed versatility in winning the 2008 Suburban Handicap (G1) at 1¼ miles on dirt at Belmont Park for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. Overall, the chestnut horse posted four wins, two seconds, and two thirds in 15 career starts and earned $454,630.

Frost Giant is out of the Gone West mare Takesmybreathaway, a half sister to successful dual hemisphere sire Mutakddim. Frost Giant’s grandam is Oscillate, a half sister to champion and sire Rhythm.
