Feisty Suances first winner for freshman sire Suances

Posted: Thursday, September 25, 2008 8:28 PM

Feisty Suances led at every point of call and earned a two-length win under a hand ride from David Flores on Thursday in the fifth race at the Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita Park to become the first winner for freshman sire Suances (GB).

Red Baron’s Barn’s homebred Feisty Suances won his debut in the 6½-furlong maiden claiming race in 1:16.86 on Santa Anita's Pro-Ride surface. Trained by Darrell Vienna, the bay colt is out of the winning Good and Tough mare Good and Hot.

Suances, an 11-year-old by Most Welcome (GB) out of the High Line mare Prayer Wheel, stood the 2008 season for $2,500 at Rancho Temescal in Piru, California. He has 15 two-year-olds in his first crop.

Suances won eight of 12 career starts and banked $402,559 in earnings. His best season came in '00., when he earned consecutive victories in the Prix de Guiche (Fr-G3) at Longchamp and the Emirates Airline Prix Jean Prat (Fr-G1) at Chantilly in his final start in Europe.

After shipping to the United States in '02, he won the San Francisco Breeders’ Cup Mile Handicap (G2) at Bay Meadows Race Course and the Dallas Turf Cup Handicap at Lone Star Park.
