Bold Truth sires first winner

Posted: Saturday, September 20, 2008 9:22 PM

Bold Captain opened a 3 1/2-length lead in early stretch and earned a dominant 10 1/4-length win in the fourth race on Saturday at Thistledown to become the first winner for Grade 2-placed freshman sire Bold Truth.

Bold Captain, the 3-to-10 favorite in a field of eight Ohio-bred two-year-olds, completed six furlongs in 1:12.54 on a track rated as fast for trainer Miguel Feliciano and owner Pyrite Stables. A half brother to multiple stakes winners Pay the Man and Bright Pyrite, Bold Captain is out of the winning Magesterial mare Pyrite Captain.

Nine-year-old Bold Truth stood the 2008 breeding season for $3,500 at Buck Pond Farm in Versailles, Kentucky. By 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, Bold Truth is out of the stakes-placed winning Forty Niner mare Forty Nine Hearts, a full sister to 1996 Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Editor’s Note and a half sister to European champion Hold That Tiger. Bold Truth has 15 two-year-olds in his first crop.

Bold Truth concluded his four-year racing career in 2004 with $112,205 in purse earnings and two wins in 15 starts. The dark bay or brown horse finished second in the ’02 Amsterdam Stakes (G2) at Saratoga Race Course for trainer John Ward Jr. and owner-breeder John Oxley.
