Renda first winner for multiple Grade 1 winner Medaglia d’Oro

Posted: Saturday, May 31, 2008 10:25 PM

Renda set a pressured pace in her career debut on Saturday at Calder Race Course, shook free when roused by jockey Wesley Henry Sr., and powered to a five-length romp to become the first career winner for classic-placed multiple Grade 1 winner Medaglia d’Oro.

Trained by Juan Arias for owner Richard Rowan, Renda completed the five-furlong maiden special weight race in :59.23. Bred in Kentucky by Meadowridge Stable, Renda is out of stakes-placed winner Ten Carats, by Capote.

Medaglia d’Oro, a nine-year-old by El Prado (Ire) out of the stakes-winning Bailjumper mare Capuccino Bay, stands for $40,000 at Stonewall Farm Stallions in Versailles, Kentucky. Medaglia d’Oro has 149 two-year-olds in his first crop.

A career earner of $5,754,720, Medagla d’Oro recorded seven stakes victories in four seasons, including a trio of Grade 1 wins. He won the Travers Stakes (G1) as a three-year-old, finished second in the Belmont Stakes, and captured the Jim Dandy (G2) and San Felipe (G2) Stakes. Medaglia d’Oro won the Whitney Handicap (G1) at four and annexed the Donn Handicap (G1) in 2004 as a five-year-old. He closed his career with a runner-up finish to Pleasantly Perfect in the 2004 Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1).
