Trippi, Florida’s leading sire by progeny earnings in 2007, has been sold to Johann and Gaynor Rupert’s L’Ormarins Stud in South Africa.

The 11-year-old End Sweep stallion will depart Florida next week and stand the upcoming Southern Hemisphere season.

Trippi recently completed his seventh season at Ocala Stud Farm. He stood this year for $12,500 for owners Michael O’Farrell, Harold Plumley, Vernon Heath, and Joyce Robsham.

“A lot of different things went into the decision,” said O’Farrell, who owns Ocala Stud. “It was a substantial offer and, ultimately, it was a business decision. We thought it was in everyone’s best interest if we sold him. He has served us very well.”

Trippi is the sire of 145 winners from 213 starters, including graded stakes winners Trippi’s Storm and Miss Macy Sue and ten other stakes winners. His progeny earned $10,871,171 through Monday, including $4.1-million in 2007.

Bred in Florida by Harry Mangurian Jr., Trippi won the Vosburgh Stakes (G1) and four other graded stakes in 2000 for owner Dogwood Stable and trainer Todd Pletcher. He won seven of 14 career starts and earned $666,220.
