Whisper by Me first winner for freshman sire Werblin

Posted: Friday, July 04, 2008 5:48 PM

In her career debut, Whisper by Me gained command at the start and increased her advantage approaching the stretch to win by five lengths on Friday at Philadelphia Park, becoming the first winner for freshman sire Werblin.

Tim Salzman trains Whisper by Me for owner Fiddlestix. The bay filly out of Polish Words, by Quiet American, completed the 4 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race in :54.35 on a fast track.

Werblin stands for $5,000 at Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds in Ocala. A nine-year-old by Unbridled’s Song out of multiple stakes winner Roll Over Baby, by Rollin On Over, Werblin is a full brother to multiple Grade 1-placed stakes winner Value Plus and multiple stakes winner Sing Baby Sing and a half brother to Grade 3-placed multiple stakes winner and sire Majorbigtimesheet.

Werblin has 22 two-year-olds in his first crop.

A career earner of $120,615, Werblin concluded his racing campaign in 2004 with two wins in ten starts. He opened his three-year-old season in 2002 with consecutive third-place finishes at Santa Anita Park in the San Vicente (G2) and San Rafael (G2) Stakes for trainer Eduardo Inda and owners Aaron and Marie Jones. Werblin also finished second in the 2002 San Pedro Stakes at Santa Anita.
