Skirting Disaster broke sharply and led at every call under jockey Francisco Torres on Thursday at Louisiana Downs to become the first career winner for Kentucky-based freshman sire Toccet.
Toccet won six of his eight starts as a juvenile for owner Dan Borislow, including the Champagne Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park and the Hollywood Futurity (G1) at Hollywood Park in 2002. He also won the Remsen Stakes (G2) and the Laurel Futurity (G3) that same year.
Toccet retired as a four-year-old with seven victories from 23 starts and $931,387 in earnings. The eight-year-old Awesome Again horse, who stands at Castleton Lyons in Lexington for $12,500, has 86 two-year-olds in his first crop.
Trained by Sturges Ducoing for owner Louis Roussel III, Skirting Disaster finished third in her career debut in a 4 ½-furlong maiden special weight race on June 12 at Louisiana Downs. She covered five furlongs on Thursday in 1:00.63 to win by a half-length.
