Posted: Wednesday, February 06, 2008 5:51 PM

Bold Executive, Canada’s leading sire in 2003 and ’04, tops a list of recipients for the ’07 Ontario Stallion Awards program.

Multiple stakes winners Bold n’ Flashy and Tethra were the second- and third-place recipients, respectively. The top first-crop sire by North American earnings of eligible progeny was Ciano Cat.

The program is presented by the Ontario Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society to 35 stallions based on the success of their Ontario-sired progeny during the 2007 racing season. A total of $400,000 is distributed to stallion owners through the Thoroughbred Improvement Program (TIP) for eligible progeny.

Bold Executive, a 24-year-old horse by Bold Ruckus, out of the Victoria Park mare Arctic Vixen, stands at Gardiner Farms in Caledon, Ontario for $14,966 ($15,000 Canadian). Bold Executive earned $106,857 in Stallion Awards.

Bold Executive, the top Polytrack sire in North America, was represented by 77 winners from 133 starters in 2007. His progeny earned $4,311,113. His top foals last year include stakes winners Legal Move, Krz Exec, Executrix, and Main Executive.

Bold n’ Flashy stands at Park Stud in Orangeville, Ontario for a private fee. The 19-year-old Bold Ruckus horse is out of Flashy Chestnut, by Briartic. Bold n’ Flashy earned $57,343 in Stallion Awards, having sired 94 winners from 172 starters that earned $2,240,529 in progeny earnings. Bold n’ Flashy top performers in 2007 include stakes winners Flashy Pink and Marco Be Good.

Tethra, a 16-year-old Cure the Blues horse, stands at Colebrook Farms Stallion Station in Uxbridge, Ontario. Out of the New Prospect mare Ada Prospect, Tethra stands for $2,993 ($3,000 Canadian).

Tethra, who sired 45 winners from 83 starters in 2007 received $33,020 in Stallion Awards. His progeny, including stakes winners Don’s Folly and Jan’s Trophy, earned 1,751,963.

Ciano Cat is a 14-year-old Storm Cat horse out of Rare Mint, by Key to the Mint. Ciano Cat stands at Gardiner Farms for $2,494 ($2,500 Canadian). He was awarded $53,906 in Stallion Awards.

Ciano Cat’s 14 winners from 38 starters in 2007 earned $497,445 in progeny earnings.

"On behalf of the CTHS, we would like to congratulate our Ontario stallions on their breeding and racing success," said Julie Coulter, general manager of the Ontario CTHS. "Through our Stallion Awards program, it allows us another means to reward our stallions and reaffirm the confidence we have in our Ontario breeders."

The program consists of two categories: stallion year end points awards, wherein $250,000 is distributed on the basis of points earned by the progeny of the stallion during 2007; and year end top stallions awards, wherein $150,000 is distributed to stallions whose progeny earned the most in North American earnings last year.
