Tipsy Saint is first winner for freshman sire Alke

Posted: Saturday, April 26, 2008 6:00 PM

Tipsy Saint overtook runner-up Houseful approaching midstretch, drew clear in the closing strides, and earned a 2 1/2-length debut win on Saturday at Delaware Park to become the first winner for freshman sire Alke.

Trained by Randy Nunley for owner Porter Racing Stable, Tipsy Saint completed 4 1/2 furlongs in :53.22 in the $44,200 maiden special weight race. He is out of the winning Saint Ballado mare Sainted Lady.

Grade 3 winner Alke stands for $4,000 at Vinery in Summerfield, Florida. The eight-year-old by Grand Slam out of stakes-placed winner Pasampsi, by Crow (Fr), has 63 two-year-olds in his first crop.

Alke concluded his racing career in 2004 with five wins in ten starts and $619,385 in earnings for owners Kenneth English and Alan Braun. The dark bay or brown horse earned his first stakes win in the 2004 Deputy Minister Handicap (G3) at Gulfstream Park and finished second in the ’02 Iroquois Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs. Alke also was the runner-up in the ’04 Gulf News Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-G1) at Nad al Sheba Racecourse in his final career start.
