Lion Heart gets first winner on Keeneland closing day

Posted: Friday, April 25, 2008 6:14 PM

Pride gained command approaching the stretch, edged clear in the closing strides, and earned 1 1/4-length win on Friday at Keeneland Race Course to become the first career winner for freshman sire Lion Heart.

Multiple Grade 1 winner Lion Heart stands for $20,000 at Ashford Stud in Versailles, Kentucky. The Tale of the Cat horse out of stakes winner Satin Sunrise, by Mr. Leader, has 180 foals in his first crop.

Todd Pletcher trains Pride for Michael Tabor, Susan Magnier, and Derrick Smith. Tabor and Smith co-owned Lion Heart, a career earner of $1,390,800 who was trained by Patrick Biancone.

Lion Heart concluded his racing career in 2004 with five wins, including four graded stakes victories, in ten starts. The chestnut horse won the 2003 Hollywood Futurity (G1) and ’04 Haskell Invitational Handicap (G1).

A half brother to Grade 3 winner French Satin, Lion Heart also won the 2003 Jack Daniel’s Hollywood Prevue Stakes (G3) and ’04 Long Branch Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G3) at Monmouth Park.
