French Group 1 winner Dedication dies

French Group 1 and Grade 3 winner Dedication (Fr) died after undergoing a second emergency colic surgery on Monday morning.

The Highest Honor (Fr) mare out of multiple Group 3-placed winner Dissertation, by Sillery, previously underwent colic surgery after foaling an Anabaa colt in February. Dedication also is the dam of two other foals.

An Alec and Ghislaine Head homebred, Dedication won seven of 23 starts and compiled $456,645 in purse earnings during a four-year racing career that concluded in 2004. The gray or roan mare made her first ten career starts in France for trainer Criquette Head-Maarek, and won the 2002 Prix de la Foret (Fr-G1) at Longchamp.

Transferred to trainer Christophe Clement, Dedication won the 2004 Beaugay Handicap (G3) at Aqueduct. She also finished third in the 2003 Matriarch Stakes (G1) at Hollywood Park.
