Harlington to Hill ‘n’ Dale for '09
Harlington, a Grade 2 winner after selling for $2.8-million as a yearling, will begin his stud career in 2009 at John G. Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms in Lexington.
The six-year-old Unbridled horse out of champion Serena’s Song, by Rahy, will stand for $10,000.
Harlington won the 2006 Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2) for Eugene Melynk, who purchased him in the '003 Keeneland September yearling sale.
“Harlington showed as much potential as any horse we have had,” Melnyk said. “We are supporting him with our top mares, as we feel he will become an important sire.
Grand Reward, another Grade 2 winner out of Serena’s Song, also stands at Hill ‘n’ Dale. Serena’s Song also produced Group 1 winner Sophisticat and stakes winner Serena’s Tune.
“Harlington was a beautiful yearling by a classic sire out of a great producer,” Sikura said. “He has all the requirements of a future leading sire.”
Bred in Kentucky by Lewis Thoroughbreds, Harlington finished fourth to Frost Giant in the Suburban Handicap (G1) on June 28 at Belmont Park in his final start. He retires with six wins in 10 career starts and $370,000 in earnings.
