Travel With Beck first winner for Kasparov

Travel With Beck dueled for the early lead, opened a 2½-length lead in early stretch, and surged to a 6½-length win under Juan Gutierrez in the first race at Emerald Downs on Sunday to become the first winner for freshman sire Kasparov.

Larry and Veralene Hillis’ two-year-old gelding out of Travel the Moon, by Moon Up T. C., won the six-furlong race in 1:11.80 on a track rated as fast for trainer Juan Navarro.

Nine-year-old Kasparov, by Mr. Prospector, stood the 2008 season for $1,500 at Gibson Thoroughbred Farm in Thorp, Washington. He has four two-year-olds in his first crop.

Out of the multiple graded stakes-winning Sovereign Dancer mare Sovereign Kitty, Kasparov was purchased for $1.5-million by bloodstock agent Demi O’Byrne on behalf of Coolmore at the 2000 Keeneland September yearling sale. Kasparov won five of 30 career starts and earned $148,056.
