Multiple graded stakes winner Rush Bay will enter stud in 2009 at Allen and Audrey Murray’s Murmur Farm in Darlington, Maryland.

No stud fee has been announced for the Cozzene horse out of the winning Deputy Minister mare Seoul, a half sister to Grade 3 winner Chorwon and multiple stakes winner Yukon Robbery. Multiple graded stakes winner Classic Elegance and multiple stakes winner Huckie also are notable members of the female family.

Six-year-old Rush Bay was retired from racing after suffering a complete disruption of the suspensory apparatus in his left fore during his final start in May 2007. Dr. Dwayne Rodgerson of Hagyard-Davidson-McGee Equine Hospital performed successful surgery to stabilize the pastern.

Rush Bay earned $742,847 during a four-year racing career, which included six wins from 18 starts. Trained by Tom Amoss, the bay horse earned all three of his stakes wins on turf, including victories in the 2005 Jefferson Cup Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs and the 2006 Nijinsky Stakes (Can-G2) at Woodbine.

Rush Bay also won the 2006 Opening Verse Handicap, a 1 1/16-mile turf race at Churchill. He finished fourth in the 2006 John Deere Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) at the Louisville track after tracking the pace in second through one mile in 1:37.76 and opening a one-length lead through 1 1/4 miles.

“It wasn’t until his final season that we recognized that his speed was really his best asset, and when he won the Opening Verse at Churchill, that was the first time we allowed him to use his speed,” Amoss said. “Towards the rest of his career, that’s exactly what he did, and we almost stole the race in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.”
