Repent to stand at Vinery Kentucky in 2009


Multiple graded stakes winner Repent is relocating to Vinery Kentucky for the 2009 season

No stud fee was announced for the Louis Quatorze horse out of stakes-placed winner Baby Grace (Arg), by Cipayo. Repent, a half brother to dual Canadian champion King Ruckus, stood the 2008 season for $5,000 at Vinery Ltd. in Summerfield, Florida.

Repent is the sire of 45 winners from 81 starters among 159 foals in two crops of racing age. The dark bay or brown horse’s progeny have compiled $2,401,319 in purse earnings through Wednesday.

Repent is the sire of five stakes winners, including Grade 2 winner Crown of Thorns, who captued the 2008 Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita Park. Other top progeny include multiple graded stakes-placed stakes winner Atoned, multiple stakes winner Repenting, and Grade 3-placed winner Famous Patriot.

Repent currently ranks tenth on the second-crop sire list. He concluded his two-year racing career in 2002 with five wins and three runner-up finishes in ten starts and earned $1,255,660.

Trained by Ken McPeek for Select Stable, Repent won two graded stakes races as a two-year-old, capturing the 2001 Kentucky Cup Juvenile Stakes (G3) at Turfway Park and the ’01 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs. Repent also finished second in the ’01 Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Belmont Park.

Repent opened his three-year-old campaign in ’02 with consecutive wins at Fair Grounds in the Risen Star Stakes (G3) and the Louisiana Derby(G2). He also finished second in the ’01 Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course.

Repent is expected to arrive in Kentucky this week and will be available for inspection during the Keeneland September yearling sale, which begins on Monday.
