Rockin Zola first winner for Rocky Bar
Rockin Zola set the early pace and scored a dominant 18¼-length win in the fourth race at Turf Paradise on Tuesday to become the first winner for freshman sire Rocky Bar.
Curtis Craig Jones’s homebred completed five furlongs in :56.69 on a track rated as fast as the 3-to-2 second-choice under Miguel Hernandez. Trained by Molly Pearson, the dark bay or brown gelding is one of three winners from as many starters out the Brocco mare Broccozola, dam of stakes winner Brite Maneuvers.
Rocky Bar, a ten-year-old by In Excess (Ire) out of multiple stakes winner To the Post, by Bold Ego, will stand the 2009 season at Triple AAA Ranch in Glendale, Arizona for $2,000. He has 13 two-year-olds in his first crop.
Rocky Bar won five of 24 career starts and earned $236,649. His lone stakes win came in the 2001 Harry Henson Stakes at Hollywood Park. Rocky Bar finished second in the 2002 Hollywood Turf Express Handicap (G3).
