Chapel Royal to stand at Signature Stallions

William Schettine’s Signature Stallions in Ocala has acquired multiple graded stakes winner Chapel Royal, who will stand the 2009 breeding season for a $10,000 fee.

Chapel Royal has sired 17 winners among the 174 two-year-olds in his first crop. His biggest earner is Advice, who finished second and was placed third via disqualification in the Arlington-Washington Futurity (G3) on September 13 at Arlington Park after winning his debut by eight lengths.

The seven-year-old by Montbrook previously stood at Ashford Stud in Versailles, Kentucky.

“We are doing something a little bit different,” said Bill Bazzell, general manager of Signature Stallions. “We’re bringing a successful Kentucky sire back to Florida. William [Schettine] wants Florida breeders to know beyond any doubt that he is committed to Thoroughbred breeding in this state.”

Bred by Ocala Stud Farm, Chapel Royal was the sale topper at the 2003 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s Calder selected two-year-olds in training sale when bloodstock agent Demi O’Byrne purchased the colt for $1.2-million.

After winning his debut by 9¼ lengths at Belmont Park in May 2003, Chapel Royal went on to win the Flash Stakes (G3) and Sanford Stakes (G2) in his next two starts. He followed those races with runner-up finishes in the Hopeful Stakes (G1) and Champagne Stakes (G1) before closing his juvenile campaign with a third-place finish to Action This Day in the Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1).

Out of the winning Cutlass mare Cut Class Leanne, Chapel Royal won three of eight career starts and earned $495,571.
