Yakhy first winner for Ballingarry
Yakhy won a conditions race on Sunday at Mont-de-Marsan in France to become the first career winner for multiple Group/Grade 1 winner Ballingarry (Ire).
Making her sixth career start for owner Jean-Claude Gentie, Yakhy completed the 1,400-meter (6.96-furlong) race in 1:32 on turf rated as soft to prevail by one length under Jimmy Martin. Yakhy is out of the winning Dominion (GB) mare Faintly.
Ballingarry, a nine-year-old by Sadler’s Wells out of Group 1 winner Flamenco Wave, by Desert Wine, stood the 2008 season for $6,908 (5,000 euros) at Haras du Mezeray in France. A full brother to Group 1 winner and sire Aristotle and a half brother to multiple Group 1 winner Starborough, Ballingarry has 54 two-year-olds in his first crop.
Ballingarry won six of 23 career starts and earned $1,741,049 in four seasons. He won the 2001 Criterium de Saint-Cloud (Fr-G1) and ’02 Canadian International Stakes (Can-G1) among five group or graded stakes wins.
