Newfound Magic first winner for Newfoundland


Newfound Magic earned a 1 1/2-length debut win on April 30 at Camarero Race Track to become the first career winner for freshman sire Newfoundland.

Trained by Guadalupe Castro for owner Jackson Racing, Newfound Magic completed two furlongs in :23.25.

Multiple Grade 3 winner Newfoundland stands for $5,000 at Brookdale Farm in Versailles, Kentucky. An eight-year-old by Storm Cat out of multiple Grade 1 winner Clear Mandate, by Deputy Minister, Newfoundland has 59 two-year-olds in his first crop. He is a half brother to stakes winner and sire Full Mandate and multiple Group 2-placed winner The Mighty Tiger.

 Newfoundland concluded his racing career in 2004 with seven wins in 22 starts and $677,534 in purse earnings. Newfoundland posted consecutive wins at Gulfstream Park in the 2004 Canadian Turf (G3) and Skip Away (G3) Handicaps for trainer Todd Pletcher and owner Sumaya Us Stables.Newfoundland also finished second in the ’04 Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) and Suburban (G1) and Gulfstream Park (G2) Handicaps.
