Cool Tarifa first winner for freshman sire One Cool Cat
Cool Tarifa challenged for the lead with about one furlong remaining on Sunday at the Curragh and powered clear to a 1 1/2-length win to become the first career winner for 2003 European champion two-year-old male One Cool Cat.
Cool Tarifa completed five furlongs on turf rated as heavy in 1:10.90 for trainer James G. Burns and owner M. A. Kilduff. The bay filly is out of the winning Trempolino mare Tarafiya.
One Cool Cat, a seven-year-old by Storm Cat out of the winning Mr. Prospector mare Tacha, stands for $19,700 ($12,500 euros) at Coolmore Stud in County Tipperary, Ireland. He has 120 two-year-olds in his first crop.
After an unplaced finish is his career debut for owners Susan Magnier and Michael Tabor, One Cool Cat reeled off four straight victories to close his championship juvenile campaign, including wins in the Independent Waterford Wedgwood Phoenix Stakes (Ire-G1) and the Dunnes Stores National Stakes (Ire-G1). He won five of ten career starts, including four group stakes victories, and earned $568,086 in two seasons.
