South Dakota sire Crafty Ridan dead

Crafty Ridan, a multiple stakes winner and South Dakota sire, died on March 3 from a heart attack. He was 22.

By Crafty Prospector out of Lady Ridanilustros, Crafty Ridan had been standing at Dick Kellem Farm in Belle Foursche, South Dakota. He finished second on the state’s general sire list with $36,660 in progeny earnings in 2007.

In 12 crops of racing age, Crafty Ridan sired six stakes winners from 66 starters who earned $1,081,255.

Gary and Mary West raced Crafty Ridan, who scored four stakes wins among 13 career victories in 59 starts, primarily in Kansas and Nebraska. He earned $174,454.
