Lady Hi Teck first winner for Hi Teck Man

Layem ‘Down Racing’s Lady Hi Teck rallied from fourth at the top of the stretch, edged clear in the final furlong, and repelled a determined challenge from Merl Gerl Too to win the fifth race on Sunday at Lone Star Park and become the first winner for multiple stakes winner and freshman sire Hi Teck Man.

Bret Calhoun trains Lady Hi Teck, who scored a half-length debut victory while completing the 5½-furlong maiden claiming race under Cliff Berry in 1:07.11 on a track rated as fast. The bay filly is out of the unraced Golden Gear mare Miraclesdocometrue, a half sister to stakes-placed winner Mama’s Temper.

Hi Teck Man is a seven-year-old by Claudius out of multiple stakes winner Missy Cherub, by Corwyn Bay (Ire). He stands for $1,000 at Lone Star Farms in Desdemona, Texas, and has ten two-year-olds in his first crop.

Hi Teck Man won three stakes among six victories in ten lifetime starts and earned $398,691. He scored the most lucrative win of his two-season career in the 2004 WinStar Derby at Sunland Park.
