Smokey Lonesome first winner for Teton Forest

Grade 2-winning freshman sire Teton Forest registered his first career winner on Thursday when Smokey Lonesome prevailed by a neck in a $48,000 maiden race at Hollywood Park.

Smokey Lonesome, who is out of the Alysheba mare Exclusive Symbol, chased the early leaders, then rallied three wide in the stretch to win the five-furlong race in :56.99 on Cushion Track for owners Bruce Chandler and Stuart Tsujimoto and owner/trainer Richard Matlow.

Teton Forest, a seven-year-old by Forestry out of the Al Nasr (Fr) mare Tomorrow’s Child, stands for $5,000 at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington. He has 40 foals in his first crop.

Campaigned by Bob Baffert for owner B. Wayne Hughes, Teton Forest recorded three wins from eight starts and amassed $222,000 in earnings. His most notable victory came in the 2004 Jerome Handicap (G2) following a second-place place finish in the Riva Ridge Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G2), both at Belmont Park.
