Saratoga Lilly first winner for freshman sire Mo Mon
Saratoga Lilly led from start to finish on Sunday in the second race at Monmouth Park to become the first career winner for graded stakes-placed winner Mo Mon.
Saratoga Lilly, who is out of the winning My Prince Charming mare Saratoga Luck, won the five-furlong maiden special weight race in :59.53 on a track rated as fast for trainer Chuck Spina, who owns Saratoga Lilly in partnership with P. Damiano and J. Lomonaco.
Mo Mon, a 10-year-old by Maria’s Mon out of the Key to the Mint mare Sewing Lady, stood the 2008 season for $2,500 at Four Winds Farm in Clarksburg, New Jersey. He has 18 two-year-olds in his first crop.
Bred by Lucy G. Bassett in Kentucky, Mo Mon recorded two wins in 21 starts and placed in five stakes races. He earned $197,720 in a five-year racing career. Mo Mon’s three-year-old season in 2001 was his most lucrative as he earned both of his wins and finished third in the El Camino Real Derby (G3) at Golden Gate Fields.
