Majestic Feline scores first win for Johar
by Steve Bailey
Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Majestic Feline assumed command in the stretch and drove to a 1 ½-length victory at Ellis Park on Thursday in her second start to become the first winner for her multiple Grade 1-winning freshman sire Johar.
Johar, who stands for $12,500 at Mill Ridge Farm in Lexington, won two Grade 1 events, including a dramatic dead-heat victory with High Chaparral (Ire) in the 2003 John Deere Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) at Santa Anita Park.
The nine-year-old Gone West horse won six of 16 starts and earned $1,494,496 in two seasons for trainer Richard Mandella and The Thoroughbred Corp. He has 75 foals, including nine starters, in his first crop of racing age.
Majestic Feline, ridden by Victor Lebron, covered one mile in 1:39.27 on firm turf. Trained by Mike Maker, she finished fifth in her career debut on May 30 at Presque Isle Downs.
