Hill ‘n’ Dale to stand Seeking the Dia

Seeking the Dia, a five-time stakes winner in Japan and the leading earner for his sire, Storm Cat, will stand at John G. Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms in Lexington.

A stud fee has not been determined for the five-year-old horse out of European highweight Seeking the Pearl, by Seeking the Gold.

Seeking the Dia scored stakes wins at 1,400 meters (6.95 furlongs), 1,600 meters (7.95 furlongs), 1,800 meters (8.94 furlongs), and 2,000 meters (9.94 furlongs) for owner Yoichi Aoyama and trainer Hideyuki Mori. He finished second in ten races that carry Group 1 status in Japan, including the Japan Cup Dirt (Jpn-G1) in both 2005 and ’06. His career bankroll was $5,044,815.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer a horse like Seeking the Dia to American breeders,” said Sikura, who previously added Santa Anita Handicap (G1) winner Heatseeker (Ire) to Hill ‘n’ Dale’s 2009 stallion roster. “We live in an ever shrinking world and this horse is the complete package who, similar to Heatseeker, should garner a true international audience. He was an elite performer from a great female family. He’s by Storm Cat and really looks the part.”

When Seeking the Pearl defeated males in the 1998 Prix Maurice de Gheest (Fr-G1), she became the first Japanese-based horse to win a Group 1 race in Europe. Seeking the Dia is her first foal.

Richard Santulli’s Jayeff “B” Stables bred the bay horse, who won seven of 30 career starts.
