Multiple Grade 2 winner Master Command has been retired and will enter stud in 2008 at Taylor Made Stallions in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
A stud fee for the A.P. Indy horse out of Lady Lochinvar, by Lord At War (Arg), will be announced at a later date.
“We’re extremely excited to have Master Command standing here at Taylor Made,” said Ben Taylor, vice president of Taylor Made Stallions. “I don’t know what more you could ask for in a stallion prospect. He was a heck of a racehorse, he’s awesome looking, has a great pedigree, and being by A.P. Indy, he could be any kind of sire.”
Aaron and Marie Jones’s Master Command wrapped up his three-year racing career with eight wins, including five graded stakes victories, in 17 starts and $1,137,188 in purse earnings. Trained by Todd Pletcher, Master Command opened his 2007 season with three consecutive stakes wins, including victories at Fair Grounds in the Mineshaft Handicap (G3) on February 10 and the New Orleans Handicap (G2) on March 10, and the National Jockey Club Handicap (G3) on April 21 at Hawthorne Race Course.
Master Command earned his first career graded stakes win in the 2006 William Donald Schaefer Handicap (G3) at Pimlico Race Course. The chestnut horse also won the ’06 Meadowlands Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G2).
“Master Command has such great action. He would go out and click off those 12-second furlongs with minimal effort,” Pletcher said. “He dominated some really good horses in his day. He was that kind of horse.”
Buzz Chace, agent, purchased Master Command for $650,000 at the 2003 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale of selected yearlings.
“Master Command was an absolute star as a yearling at Saratoga,” said Bill Graves, Fasig-Tipton’s director of yearling sales. “He’s a big, gorgeous son of A.P. Indy.”
