Avenue of Flags, the sire of Grade 1 winners Joey Franco and Notable Career, will stand the 2008 breeding season at Chris and Tina Hourigan’s Hourigan Horse Farm in Anthony, New Mexico, for a private fee.
“His babies have always sold really good, and he has had several great winners,” Tina Hourigan said. “He’s getting older, but is still in great shape and doesn’t have any problems. He’s in good health and we want to do everything to keep him well. He’s a fun loving guy who has a great disposition.”
The 19-year-old Seattle Slew horse out of Grade 3 winner Beautiful Glass, by Pass the Glass, stood the 2006 and ’07 seasons at Fred and Linda Alexander’s A & A Ranch in Anthony, New Mexico, for $5,000. He stood the ’05 season at Double LL Farms in Bosque, New Mexico, as a property of a syndicate, for $5,000, and previously stood 14 seasons at Golden Eagle Farm in Ramona, California.
Tina Hourigan expects Avenue of Flags, who is owned by Winner Circle Bloodstock, to cover at least 30 mares during the upcoming breeding season.
From 435 foals in 14 crops of racing age, Avenue of Flags has sired 191 winners, including 23 stakes winners, from 271 starters who have earned $14,310,509 through Wednesday.
Bred in Kentucky by John and Betty Mabee, Avenue of Flags is a half brother to Grade 1 winner Jeanne Jones. Avenue of Flags won two of three career starts and earned $53,550. His only loss was a second-place finish to Deposit Ticket in the 1990 Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes (G2). He was campaigned by Golden Eagle Farm and trained by Richard Mandella.
