Multiple Group 1 winner Scorpion (Ire) has been retired and will stand the 2008 breeding season under the Coolmore National Hunt banner at Castle Hyde Stud in Fermoy, County Cork, Ireland.

Scorpion won both the Ladbrokes St. Leger (Eng-G1) and Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris (Fr-G1) in 2005 and finished second that season in the Budweiser Irish Derby (Ire-G1).

A five-year-old by Montjeu (Ire), Scorpion won the Vodafone Coronation Cup (Eng-G1) on June 1 and closed his three-year career with a runner-up finish to Yeats in the Irish Field St. Leger (Ire-G1) September 15 at the Curragh.

"The Coolmore National Hunt sires have already made a fantastic start to the new season, and we are delighted to have added another outstanding prospect to the roster in Scorpion," said Coolmore's David Magnier. "He finished first or second in ten of his 15 races and he is an exceptionally good-looking horse with all the qualities required to make a top sire."

Scorpion collected four wins and six seconds in 15 career starts and earned $1,744,153 for trainer Aidan O’Brien and owners Susan Magnier and Michael Tabor. A half brother to multiple graded stakes winner Memories (Ire) and two other stakes winners, Scorpion is out of the Law Society mare Ardmelody.
