MISS RED DELICIOUS, FIRST WINNER FOR FRESHMAN SIRE EMPIRE MAKER

Jeff Coady/Coady Photography

Miss Red Delicious, a two-year-old filly by first crop sire Empire Maker, won a maiden special weight race by 13 1/2 lengths at Colonial Downs on Monday in her second career start.

Miss Red Delicious is the only starter and first winner by her classic winning sire. The Kentucky-bred filly swept to the lead leaving the turn and pulled away, finishing the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:04.44 on a fast track.

Miss Red Delicious is out of the winning Grade 2-placed Clever Trick mare Miss Mary Apple. She was bred in Kentucky by her owner, Katierich Stables, and is trained by Mark Hubley.

Empire Maker, a Juddmonte Farms homebred, won four of eight starts and earned $1,985,800. The Unbridled horse won the Florida Derby (G1), Wood Memorial Stakes (G1), and Belmont Stakes (G1) in 2003.

Out of the El Gran Senor mare Toussaud, Empire Maker is a half brother to Grade 1 winners Chester House, Honest Lady, and Chiselling. He stands for $100,000 at Juddmonte Farms in Lexington.
