McMahon to stand Forty Niner horse Utopia

Posted: Wednesday, December 12, 2007 12:14 PM

Utopia (Jpn), a Forty Niner horse who won stakes in Japan, Dubai, and the United States while earning $4,913,585, will begin his stud career in 2008 at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds in Saratoga Springs, New York.

The seven-year-old horse out of Dream Vision, by Northern Taste, will stand for $7,500.

Utopia won four races that are recognized as Group 1 in Japan, scoring in the 2002 Zen Nippon Nisai Yushun as a two-year-old at 1,600 meters (7.95 furlongs), the ‘03 Derby Grand Prix at 2,000 meters (9.94 furlongs), and in the Mile Championship Nambu Hai at 1,600 meters in both ’04 and ’05.

In his final start for owner Makoto Kaneko and trainer Kojiro Hashiguchi, Utopia secured a four-length win in the Jebel Ali International Hotels Godolphin Mile (UAE-G2) at Nad al Sheba racecourse.

Godolphin Racing then purchased Utopia and sent him to Belmont Park where he won the 2007 Westchester Handicap (G3) in his United States debut. In his final start, Utopia finished second to Hunting in the Stuyvesant Handicap (G3) on November 17 at Aqueduct.

Bred in Japan by Northern Farm, Utopia won nine of 34 career starts.
