By Chaparral became the first winner for two-time champion and freshman sire High Chaparral (Ire) when he won by a neck on Sunday at Lyon-Parilly in France.

By Chaparral completed 900 meters (4.47 furlongs) in :51 on turf rated as soft for trainer Marc Pimbonnet and owner Henriette Comelli-Pauget. Bred in France by Soledad de Moratalla and Aliette Forien, By Chaparral is out of the winning Ashkalani mare Spring Morning.

An eight-year-old by Sadler’s Wells, High Chaparral is out of Kasora, by Darshaan. He stands for $27,036 (20,000 euros) at Cooolmore Stud in Ireland.

High Chaparral won ten of 13 career starts during his racing career for owners Susan Magnier and Michael Tabor and earned $5,331,231 in three seasons.

In 2002, High Chaparral won the Budweiser Irish Derby (Ire-G1) and Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-G1) before capping the year with a 1 1/4-length win in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Arlington Park en route to being crowned champion turf male in the United States. High Chaparral repeated as the Eclipse Award winner in the division in 2003 after finishing in a dead heat with Johar in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita Park.
